For business owners who wish to encroach on City sidewalks or road right-of-way with retail displays (sandwich board signs, outdoor seating, patios), an encroachment permit issued by the City is required prior to placement of signage or seating in City right-of-way.
Encroachment Permits are reviewed in accordance with Council Policy DS-1 – Outdoor Patio Policy and Council Policy DS-6 – Encroachment on City Sidewalks. Policy DS-1 is used to review patios proposed on sidewalks or parking spaces, while Policy DS-6 is used to evaluate sandwich board signs as well as display racks and tables for retail display. It is important to review these policies to ensure alignment prior to submission of an encroachment permit to the City for review.
